Ways to Support CAFE Kids
The money we receive from donations goes towards funding the Cultural Arts for Excellence after-school program. No gift is too great or small as we endeavor to positively impact the lives of middle school students. We would not be able to fulfill our mission without the support of corporate and individual donors. Thank you for giving generously.
Would you like to change a child’s life forever? Your scholarship will pay for a CAFE experience that will last the entire school year.
CAFE Kids provides after-school academic support to approximately 25 low-income youth each school year, with project-based learning offered on Mondays and Wednesdays and tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Project-based learning is modeled on the “Odyssey of the Mind” curriculum, which challenges youth to complete multiple projects per year utilizing science, technology, and creative problem-solving skills. Tutoring is offered in individual- and group-formats and focuses on participants’ academic needs. On Fridays, youth engage in arts activities, which include dance, theater, visual arts, and participation in CAFE’s steel drum-based Caribbean Steel Orchestra. CAFE views the arts as complementary to academics, because the arts foster critical-thinking skills, develop higher-order thinking, and deepen the desire to learn.

The CAFE two-week summer camp is designed to expose middle school students to life outside of their neighborhood and immediate community. The aim of this exposure is to create new life experiences, broadening the horizons of each student, and opening new doorways of interest and curiosity. Some past camp activities have included an introduction to milk and ice cream making at the Homestead Creamery in Bedford, a trip to Healing Strides horse farm, where students learn how to care for and ride horses, a downtown scavenger hunt where students discover the sights and sounds of downtown, a trip to a llama farm, and a trip to South County Library Wetlands trail, where students encountered unusual and exotic habitats. Fun activities are interwoven into the camp experience with trips to the skating rink and Splash Valley Waterpark.
Your donation will give one student an opportunity to partake in the educational and entertaining experience that is the CAFE Summer Camp. The funds will be used to pay for all administrative cost associated with a CAFE camper. This includes tuition, food, and admissions into all field trip activities.
